Austin Franklin @ contaxlist.com/mailman/listinfo/contax_contaxlist.com :

Personally, I have found little, if any improvement in image quality comparing high end 35mmesque dSLRs to comparable 35mm films, except in limited circumstances. My experience is based on that I have been designing digital imaging devices for more than two decades, and have more than two decades of digital imaging experience with some pretty high end stuff...so digital imaging is not new to me. When it comes to digital imaging quality, I like scanning back, but they're use is quite limited. I also like medium format film. Not in any way to say that you can't get superb images from digital, nor that they aren't useful, in fact you can and they are. Just that I haven't noticed any major improvement in "image quality" even with the best of them.
I'd appreciate it if you could clarify what you mean by "quality", and what distinct qualities you have seen that are an improvement in your eyes. For me, digital has some superb advantages, but image quality (which for me means fidelity) hasn't been one of them.
