It appears that it is already possible to buy buy a USB 3.0 controller expansion card.
Information about USB 3 in Wikipedia. It was said: Consumer products are expected to become available in 2010. Commercial controllers are expected to enter into volume production no later than the first quarter of 2010.. But it's still 2009 and these are available!
These beasts are capable to transfer data at 400 megabytes per second.
