Народ, видя у меня в руках Яшику, часто спрашивает, что это за контора и что слово значит.

A word made from contraction of Yashima+Camera. Yashima (8 islands) is one of ancient name for Japan. And the company who made Yashica cameras was founded as Yashima Seiki coop, (Yashima precision-machinary).

It's formed from the names of the parent companies, when Yashima Seiki, which made clocks, acquired the Nicca Camera Company and created Yashica Cameras.
